Quiltlet #17

I'm calling this one Frenetic. This is the first of two frenetic pieces I've made. It measures 14 x 16.5. Until last week, I didn't even know exactly what that word meant, but it came up recently in a conversation about a friend as a sort of way to put him down. It got me thinking about how we define order and chaos. In a world of individuals, sometimes we are judged by how well we fit the grid. Pink Floyd's album "The Wall" was all about this, George Orwell wrote about it often, and "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is a movie which explores issues of conformity and compliance. In this quilt the improvisational design of the piecing represents a type of freneticism, as the grid, overlaid on the top, serves to imply conformity's will on the disorganized. I don't usually get this philosophical about my work, but this word has been on my mind recently. When I pieced this one together, I had to ask myself why it is so different than the quiltets that preceded it. I realized my friend and his situation was weighing heavily on my mind, and not surprisingly it came out in my work. I have another I'll post in a few days.

I really like this one. Interestingly, I find it the least frenetic of your quiltlets. The gradation of color leads the eye around and then around again to take in more details each time. I find the complementary and blended colors very pleasing -- it's both rich and harmonious at the same time. Regardless of our different interpretations (and our own personal experiences we all, as viewers, put onto the artwork we take in) it's very nice. I look forward to seeing it's partner.

But actually, THIS one is my favorite.

Ths one is MY favorite! I just love this one! To me, it is not at all frenetic. The colors are so passionate, so rich, so romantic, they have such depth. This quilt really moves me and rocks my world!

Hi Robin,
I'm glad you visited my blog because that gave me the opportunity to see some of your work. I've noticed your etsy shop as well. I really like this quilt and the quilts you have in your store.

Like everyone else, this is now my new favorite. I don't find it frenetic and I love the color palette. It is beautiful. Cheers.

This one is one of my favorite too because it is in "my" colors. I like #3 almost equally well because of the combination of all of the tiny pieces.

Like everyone else, I love the colors in this one - especially how you used that purple to yellow gradation!
